Leaky gut is often accompanied by a number of allergies to different food. The different types of food we eat often get digested into the body without complaint. The human digestive system is built for most of the food we eat and in the normal course of things; the digestive process smoothly takes care of all the things that we eat. However, in case a person has leaky gut, digesting certain food will be very difficult. A person with leaky gut often finds it difficult to digest certain types of food. The food that he eats often causes an allergy in the body. This happens because the over active immune system in the body. In case of leaky gut, the intestinal lining in the body becomes weak. This causes the undigested proteins to be thrown out into the body blood stream. The body treats these as foreign particles. It releases an army of immune juices to combat the foreign bodies, which in reality is the food the person just ate. This causes the body to fight back every time the particular food is eaten. This is known as an allergy.

If a person suffering from the effects of leaky gut wants to heal leaky gut, he would be better off not eating the food to which he is allergic. This is because the body will immediately fight back if he eats that food and the colon will have no time for healing itself. This would mean that the healing process again goes back a few paces. The restriction in the diet often helps the person to have a safe recovery and should be the basis for any leaky gut treatment
